Plant description


Veronica spicta is
self-compatible, protogynous and insect-pollinated perennial with a life span
from three to ten years. Once established V. spicata spreads mainly by
rhizomes and stolons into areas of bare soil where it grows in dense patches.
Veronica spicata is higly intolerant of shade and competition, persisting
only where potentially tall competitors remain restricted by relative
harshness of environment. In Finland , V. spicata is at the northern limits
of its distribution.

Diffusion area



Distributed in the European
Arctic (east), Ukraine, Belarus, in the European part of Russia (all
regions), in Eastern Siberia (Yenisei region), the Caucasus, in Central Asia.
It grows in pine forests, steppes, on the gravelly slopes, forest clearings
to verhnegornogo belt.

Ecology


In the steppes, stony slopes,
pine forests.

Therapeutic actions



In respiratory infections is
administered as an antidote to snake bites in the regeneration of wounds,
raising hypotension and bactericidal effect, still manages to influenza,
bronchitis, tuberculosis, bronchial diseases satm kidney, liver, bladder,
rheumatism, internal bleeding, neurosis, insomnia, cachexia was. Used in flu,
respiratory diseases, bronchitis. For various skin diseases, acne, fungal
skin lesions, itchy rashes, cuts and abrasions skin burns.

Biologically active substances


Since the purpose of treatment
is used herb (stems, leaves, flowers). In the roots are found iridoids
(aukubozid, katalpol, katalpozid). In the grass found carbohydrates, mannitol
1.7%, quinic acid, iridoids (aukubozid, izokatalpol, acetate metilkatalpola,
katalpozid, acetate katalpola, garpagid, acetate garpagida), cardenolides,
saponins, choline, phenol carbonic acids and their derivatives (coffee 0,3 %,
ferulic, izoferulovaya, mauve, p-coumaric, protokateholovaya, veratrovaya),
tannins, coumarins, flavonoids.

Stems contain iridoids (aukubozid, katalpol, katalpozid). In pmstyah
contains iridoids (aukubozid, katalpol, katalpozid, potokateholkatalpol,
kofeailkatalpol, viniloilkatalpol) flaonoidy (glycosides of luteolin and
6-gidroksilyuteolina). In the flowers of flavonoids found in the seeds -
alkaloids.
