Plant description


Annual herb 30-50 cm tall,
semyparasite, toxic. Flowering in June-July. It grows in meadows, river
valleys, forest glades in the Ukraine (Carpathians), in Belarus, Moldova.
With the purpose of treatment used grass, leaves.

Diffusion area



North Europe:
Austria/Lichtenstein, Belgium/Luxemburg, Czech/Slovak Republics, North
France, Switzerland, Holland, Poland, Baltic States, Central Russia, West
Russia. South Europe: South France, Italy, Yugoslavia.

Ecology


Grows scattered through the
glades and meadows. It is a rare plant.

Therapeutic actions


Preparations of the herb is used
in scrofula, dried shredded leaves - with festering wounds, rubbing (with
honey) - as a prophylactic for supercooling. Decoction of grass consumed
inside with alcohol. The plant exhibits antibacterial and insecticidal activity.
The injection is recommended as a remedy in inflammatory diseases: colds,
headaches (migraine), inflammation of the sexual organs are used in chopped
feminine. Leafs in wound regeneration, combustion and especially
alcoholism.


Biologically active substances


The plant contains iridoid,
essential oils, carotenoids, steroids, cardenolides, saponins steroid,
tannins, vitamin C. The seeds found fatty oil.
